Liberty Village is about to welcome a significant new public space. The City of Toronto has launched an international design competition to transform a Toronto Parking Authority surface lot into a vibrant 4,900m\u00b2 park at the southwest corner of Hanna Avenue and Liberty Street. A temporary “Park in Progress” has already been operating since June 2025, building community momentum for the permanent installation.<\/p>\n

Five finalist designs\u2014selected from 26 pre-qualified submissions\u2014offer distinctly different visions. \u00c0nakwad Park emphasizes Indigenous aesthetics and wooded buffers; Liberty Yard draws inspiration from factory heritage; Liberty Village Living Room reimagines domestic furnishings as public features; Windborne Common celebrates local industrial history with extensive native plantings; and Liberty Nature Park prioritizes wildlife habitat alongside human gathering.<\/p>\n

Each concept includes amenities like washrooms, pavilions, rain gardens, and public art installations. The design jury will make its recommendation in November 2026, with the winning design announced in December. Community refinement follows in Spring 2027, with construction beginning Fall 2028 and completion targeted for Fall 2030.<\/p>\n
