This 7-kilometre extension of Danforth Line 2, replacing the Scarborough RT, is progressing with the help of &#8220;Diggy Scardust,&#8221; a massive tunnel boring machine. Despite a setback in late 2024, tunnelling has resumed at an average of 9 metres per day, with speeds reaching up to 20 metres per day recently. The TBM is currently north of McCowan Road and Lawrence Avenue East, the future site of Lawrence-McCowan station. Metrolinx anticipates the machine will reach its extraction shaft in approximately one year. This project will house both tracks within a single, massive bore, unlike other TTC subway tunnels.
